Who is Taking Care Of My Broken Heart? Music video

This is my newest music video. I hope you enjoy it. This music piece has quickly become one of my fastest rising improvisations currently playing on 3 streaming sites, as well as a variety of other social media sites. When someone likes my music it is the best feeling for me.

My recordings are all home recordings. It’s been awhile since I made a recording in a music studio  and since I am not an engineer, and my knowledge of sound mixing is nonexistent, there are at times obvious mistakes I’m not sure how to fix.

This recording of, Who is Taking Care of My Broken Heart, mentions Jamie’s son, the man who is the main character in my book, Inside The Forbidden Outside.

Jamie has not been able to have any kind of face to face relationship with his son while he has been incarcerated because no one but myself has taken him to see his father. I live far away and can’t easily get to Texas. No one else has done much of anything to help and support him. You find it who really loves you and who only say the words

That is why his heart is broken

Who’s Taking Care of My Broken Heart

Listen to Who’s Taking Care of My Broken Heart by Sonni Quick #np on #SoundCloud

I posted this to soundcloud.com/sonni-quick three weeks ago and it quickly became one of my most frequently played recordings. Not in the scope of someone backed by a major producer, but I’ve been pleased with the results so far by those who follow my music and share it. SoundCloud is a great site to hear good non-industry music, develop playlists or play one already compiled,

At this stage of my life, ober the past couple years I’ve had about 20k hits combined on all of the music I have on the internet and thats a heck of a lot more than those who saw me play live when I was younger – and those people could never hear the music again.

The internet has been a great boom to musicians getting their music heard – but there is extremely little money in it. Why buy what you can stream?

I’m banking on my combined following of music and those generated by Jamie’s blog and social media. It will give my book (when it’s done) the possibility of greater success. I posted a new partial chapter today on Jamie blog. SUBSCRIBE at that blog to read complete chapters.

I welcome your feedback. Reader’s opinions and criticism is my only way right now to find out what is wrong – or right. Do you want to be a reader,  let me know. If you do  I’ll send you a free t-shirt, (that you can also purchase on the first post at the blog) a free copy of the book when it comes out, and your name in the book for those who helped – and a few album dl of all the music, which would come with a purchase of the book.

Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll give you more details.

Closer To Home – New Music

freedom-1125539_1920

This music for the chapter in my book when Jamie is moved from a prison in Beeville, TX, called McConnell Unit, deep southern Texas, to a prison closer to home in East Texas. Maybe now he will get visitors and also get to see his son again.

This The Season. Oops! How Does This Player Work?

20160731_162427_resized

This is me and my mom! Merry Christmas Mom!

Deck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly. FA-LA-LA-LA – Oops! I was getting a little carried away. I was just walking down my street after dark, slapping at mosquitos (that’s a drag) and there were so many Christmas lights on. What a wonderful 80 degrees day in the Florida’s Keys.  Screw the cold and snow and wind and freezing to death! Mrs. Santa is wearing shorts.

Okay, back to work. I’m trying to get this to work. The player is supposed to show up automatically,  I think, but If it doesn’t, click the link below and a video player appears that will let you pick from all of the music videos I have at YouTube.

You can subscribe to my channel on the YouTube screen  at the top left, but to like it or get notifications of new videos, comment or share you have to go to YouTube, by clicking my picture at the top left.

That would be the best thing to do. On the player (at the link below) I liked that you could play any video you wanted because people who are new to what I’m doing and why I do it, are less inclined sometimes to go to older videos, yet most all of them go to a chapter in the book I’m writing. Which you can find at my blog My Name Is Jamie. My Life In Prison There is info about it at YouTube, too, plus a list of all other sites that are affiliated with it. So I’ll see if this player works after I publish it on my blog. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! (It didn’t work so just click on that long link and it will bring it up)

My main website below is where you can also subscribe to my music mailing list for an occasional update. Believe me, I don’t have time to inundate your email box so I won’t take up much space. Any agent, promoter or editor looks at the size of your mailing or they won’t touch you, so if your subscribe I won’t abuse it.

Thanks for your patience.  I hope it’s going to be a great HOLIDAY SEASON for you!

Love ya! Sonni

Oh My! Is 2018 Almost Over?

What a hectic year this has been. Unbelievable. But it has been a wonderful year as well. At the end of 2017 I decided to compellingly rewrite my book “Inside The Forbidden Outside”. 90k words, plus a new book cover. Learning to write is a craft like any other. It takes practice and a quest for knowledge.

I’ve been traveling by train to and from the Florida Keys for a year, a month in each place and then switching, as I try to help my son with his two youngest children. That is a challenge, grabbing quiet hours! Through all of it life has been full and rewarding. I am optimistic that what I’m doing will be successful. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the followers I have developed at all the websites I utilize. The positive feedback I get back tells me I’m on the right track.

I have written many things in my life along with two blogs and had a short story published in an anthology, but it is not the same as writing a book. It was a good experience writing the first complete manuscript but it didn’t really say what I wanted to say. So I studied to figure out what I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to finish this second draft by the end of this year but there is still so much to do. I spend every waking moment on some aspect of this, spinning one necessary plate after another.

I am more than half way done with this draft  and quite a bit of music has been recorded so far. If I only had to finish writing the book it would most likely be done. Adding music and promoting it is time consuming. It is also hard to spend enough time on my blogs or being able to go back to blogs I have liked as often as I want to.

I sincerely appreciate those who listen to my music, watched my music videos and read any parts of the chapters I have posted. It is my desire to write this story as best I can in a way that entices you to read until the end and share it with your friends. I believe what I am writing has value – educating society to understand the truth about what lies in inside our prisons. You can read more on my other blog – My Name is Jamie. My Life in Prison.  The first post on the blog gives you the opportunity to purchase a T-shirt or totebag with Jamie’s picture as I try to raise funds to help him. There are also music videos at the blog, but you can go directly to Sonni Quick Improv Piano at YouTube as well to subscribe, like and

Please subscribe to ITFO News for occasional updates on the book and at my main website – sonniquick.net to hear new music, guaranteed to help you sleep and create wonderful dreams. On my Facebook page Improv Piano Music of Sonni Quick you will also hear the work of other musicians I enjoy and want to share with you. You can also use the share links below to share this post on your own social media. Your support is precious to me.

Have a wonderful day!

Unintended Consequences – Poetry and YouTube Video

Unintended Consequences

I never thought I’d have to live
in such a lonely place
I touch the walls on either side
I never thought I’d call this home
Memories here I can’t erase
A thousand people all alone

I never thought this was where I’d be
My life would work it out
I never dreamed my window
was the only way I’d see
the beauty of the world outside
How can I continue?

An unintended consequence
Not thinking what will be
the end result, not thinking through
Pretending I was being free
I didn’t think, I never thought
my careless choice I can’t undo

I never thought what would I crave
the most if taken away
The touch of skin, your silken breath?
Sends goosebumps up my spine
I shiver once and desire more
“You didn’t think,” I heard you cry

I only have my memories now
To keep me warm at night
I wrap my arms around my head
Pretending you are touching me
It will be years, will you be gone?
Touching someone else instead

An unintended consequence
Not thinking what will be
the end result, not thinking through
Thinking I was being free
But I didn’t think, I never thought
It would mean losing you

There is a chapter in the book I am writing with the same title. The book chronicals Jamie’s life in prison and his maturing from a boy into a man. This is a true story taken from hundreds of letters we shared, along with a creative narrative joining the events together  I had to crawl inside his head to understand but after 13 years of writing to him I understand him pretty well. At the link for the chapter you can subscribe to my mailing list to get periodic updates

Because of the sheer volume of work that needs to be done preparing this book and writing the music and videos it is hard to keep up my 2 blogs as frequently as I’d like. Thank you so much for your support.

My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me – music

nightmares

This music was recorded Nov 2017 but the chapter it goes to in my upcoming book, “Inside The Forbidden Outside,” was not ready yet to be written. You can find a partial chapter on this post at my other blog, but to read the entire chapter you have to be subscribed to ITFO News – on that blog post. Not everyone reads every post and can keep up with how this project is going. I never overwhelm email inboxes. I only write on occasion to update the progress and to let you know when it will be published. This draft is 47,000 words so far, 20 chapters and 14 music videos. So it is getting there and is being written with great care. It is the truth about someone’s life, wrapped into a creative non fiction story – and the illusions and dreams that can take place inside someone’s mind. This man is still sitting in solitary confine cell called adseg. As terrible as that is he feels it is better than being in general population (gen pop) at the mercy of the guards, riots, weapons and being exposed to inmates on drugs.

I believe this book provides the insight to see the inmates of our prisons to be people and not commodities to make money from until you wear them out and kill them from neglect while pretending otherwise to the people who read about our prisons in the media. I believe what they do to humans is shameful. Yes, we have very guilty people among the inmates and many suffer from untreated mental illnesses or are caused to have mental breakdowns due to mistreatment. Too many have a callous view of the millions locked up and don’t want to believe there are innocent people locked up and sentences are way to steep and believed to deserve whatever the prisons do to them, especially for blacks and Hispanics whose lives we try to ruin on the outside because they had the “misfortune” of being born with color in their skin. Not until you have a family member who is exposed to this humanity can most people understand what it does to humanity and all their family members ho have to watch the suffering.

My book addresses the reality of being imprisoned – not their guilt, and I will fight to help people understand the part they play by ignoring what they think doesn’t involve them.
